Jerome E. Spear, CSP, CIH, FAIHA

Industrial Hygiene & Safety Expert

As the president and founding partner of Spear & Lancaster, LLC, I am dedicated to helping organizations increase profits via risk management and incident prevention techniques by offering expert safety, process safety, and industrial hygiene consulting.

 

I have over 33 years of experience helping organizations prevent injuries and illnesses, manage losses, and achieve regulatory compliance. I am both a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH). Previously, I held the positions of Technical Services Manager for XL Specialty Risk Consulting (a division of XL Specialty Insurance Company) and Corporate Industrial Hygiene Manager for Chicago Bridge and Iron Co., a worldwide steel fabricator and construction company. I am also regularly retained as an expert witness on asbestos, industrial hygiene, personal injury, and OSHA matters.

I have a BS in Industrial Engineering, with a specialty in systems safety engineering, from Texas A&M University and an MBA from Sam Houston State University. Additionally, I have previously served as an adjunct instructor for Texas A&M University, School of Rural Public Health.

In March of 2017, the AIHA Board of Directors approved my nomination as an American Industrial Hygiene Association Fellow. The American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA), the AIHA Nominating and Awards Committee, and the AIHA Board of Directors all agreed on this high recognition. Only five percent of the AIHA membership can qualify for the Fellow Award, which is given to those individuals who have made significant contributions to the field of industrial hygiene.

 

 

Jeremy J. Lancaster, CSP

EHS Management & Process Safety Expert

As vice president of Spear & Lancaster, I provide consultations for companies looking to improve process safety or efficiently implement safety improvement plans.

I have over 27 years of experience working to improve safety and EHS management, process safety, and incident prevention in a wide range of applications. In my previous experience, I was responsible for leading safety, process safety, and manufacturing production organizations in performance improvement initiatives across chemical, refining, major projects, commissioning/startups, and turnarounds. I have worked and lived in many locations inside and outside the United States, including domestic facilities and plants, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, and North Africa driving organizational improvements.

During my time at Chevron Phillips Chemical Company, I led several safety improvement and program implementation efforts, driving key success metrics throughout the global enterprise. Prior to joining Chevron Phillips Chemical Company; (previously known as Phillips Chemical Company) in 2001 I worked for Chicago Bridge & Iron Co., where I met Jerome Spear. After 25 years of friendship, I started working with Jerome at Spear & Lancaster, LLC, where we provide expert safety, process safety, and industrial hygiene (IH) services for companies to protect their people and improve profitability.

I have a BS in Occupational Safety & Health Management from Murray State University and an MBA from the University of Phoenix. Additionally, I am a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and have had training in excavations, scaffolding, mobile cranes, and asbestos through training programs and institutions.

Marlen Salgado

Asbestos & Mold Training Coordinator

As Training Coordinator at Enviro-Con Services, I specialize in developing and delivering impactful training programs that enhance safety awareness and operational effectiveness. With over a decade of experience in safety coordination, instructional support, and communication systems, I bring a hands-on approach to training initiatives, course plans, and performance analysis.

My career spans roles in industrial safety, education, and technical operations, including serving as a Safety Technician Supervisor at United Shutdown Safety and a Paraprofessional Aide at Dayton ISD. I’ve led initiatives in job hazard analysis, safety presentations, and equipment training, consistently promoting a safety-conscious work environment across diverse industries.

I hold a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology from Lamar University and maintain certifications as an Asbestos Contractor Supervisor, Asbestos Inspector, and Asbestos Management Planner. I am also certified in CPR and NCCER. Fluent in Spanish, I bring strong cross-cultural communication skills to every engagement, ensuring clarity and collaboration across teams.

Position: Mold and Asbestos Trainer

Location: Houston, TX

abatement and mold remediation training for both the industrial and commercial sector.

Spear & Lancaster has over 60 years of combined experience assisting hundreds of national and
international organizations in achieving greater profitability by reducing workplace risks.

We are seeking a Spanish & English-speaking Mold and Asbestos Trainer to join our team. In this role, you’ll deliver hands-on and classroom training on mold remediation, asbestos safety, and abatement procedures. Your work will ensure that participants understand and apply the latest industry regulations, safety protocols, and best practices
in accordance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging training on mold and asbestos remediation for various experience levels
  • Ensure all materials align with current safety regulations and best practices
  • Lead hands-on demonstrations, safety drills, and real-world simulations
  • Evaluate training effectiveness and incorporate feedback for improvement
  • Provide certification and documentation of training completion
  • Stay current on industry updates, new technologies, and emerging safety methods

Qualifications:

  • Certification and experience in mold and/or asbestos programs per EPA/OSHA
    standards
  • Eligible to teach Mold/Asbestos Awareness, Worker, Supervisor, and Program
    Management courses
  • Experienced in adult education and technical instruction
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Self-driven, organized, and capable of managing training programs independently
  • Based in the Houston area
  • Preferred but not required – Bilingual: Fluent in English and Spanish (professional proficiency)
